“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” (John 21:25 KJV)
I read this verse while listening (or not) to the sermon last Sabbath. I’ve always had a reading problem. If you set a book in front of me I’m going to begin reading and keep reading. So, when the Pastor mentioned the verses we would be studying (John 21:15-17), I of course didn’t stop, kept reading until the end of the chapter.
And that’s the verse I read. It immediately jumped at me. I like that verse very much. See, I’ve always known there was more. Scholars talk about all that is or could be missing from the Bible. Events and descriptions of things that happened, lives lived, that we don’t have access to, yet. And here is this verse that says just that. It alludes to so much more that we could know, if only.
It’s the ‘if only’ that I really like. Because there’s a way to find out. There’s a way to get the rest of the story. Really, the story has not even ended. There was that part about a resurrection. The bigger implication of a salvation. And ultimately a promise of eternity with our Lord. During that eternity, I will ask for the details, the missing parts, “the many other things.”
